Today’s adventure was a Thai cooking class. I was so excited! We started out at a local market where our guide Toey showed us different spices, seasonings, and vegetables often used in Thai food. We learned the difference between our ginger and galangal (Thai ginger). We smelled basil and holy basil (more pungent and peppery). We saw slices of turmeric, long stems of lemon grass, bushels of kaffir lime leaves, bumpy limes, and small green Thai eggplant.

Thai Food 101
Climbing Like Spider-Man!
We took a tour to Bua Tong Falls, known as Sticky Falls. The limestone of the rock makes it so you can climb up the falls, over the falling water without slipping and sliding. It’s kind of wild and I didn’t completely trust it at times. It’s a popular tourist spot and we were with a lot of people, but it was an interesting and fun experience. We also enjoyed making friends on our tour. We had two single travelers in our group, Ashwin, an Indian man who is in Thailand for his son’s destination wedding and Sonja, a young German woman who’s taking time off to travel before she starts university. They were very kind and it was nice getting to know them. When we got to the falls we hiked down to the base of the falls and climbed up the four different falls, channeling our inner Spider-Man!
Chillin in Chiang Mai
We’re staying in northern Thailand outside of Chiang Mai in a spacious house all by ourselves. We’ll be here for a week and it’s nice to have space to spread out and time to both be a tourist, and to rest and relax.
