This morning we had fruit smoothies and a hearty breakfast at the Kiwi Kitchen. We had left today open as a rest day, but instead we rented ATVs and drove up to the popular lagoons in the area to swim. Caleb LOVED driving the buggy. I was teasing him about this being his Laos driving school and he passed because he didn’t hit any cows or buffalos. The views were stunning and thankfully it rained a little so the roads weren’t too dusty. Instead they were muddy and Dave and Caleb (both driving) loved splashing our buggy’s through the puddles. The views were breathtaking and we kept exclaiming “Wow Laos!” It’s both so beautiful and so peaceful here. I can understand why Elise and Ruby love it so much.

An Epic Father’s Day
We had a little snafu after the first lagoon because the buggy wouldn’t start. Thankfully they brought us a new one and extended our time. While we were waiting Elise bought some new (to us) fruits to try…jackfruit, lychee, pomelos, sour mango, and mangosteens. I don’t love lychee, but everything else was fantastic. The kids especially loved the sour mango.
We stopped at Blue Lagoon 1 and 3 to swim. The water was really cold, but a bright turquoise blue full of fish. There were platforms to jump off, zip-lines and rope swings. It was a little scary, but so fun! Annabelle and I jumped off the platform together and Dave and the boys jumped, swung, and ziplined over and over. The only thing we had to watch out for was the black and white caterpillars that looked a little bit like tiny porcupines, stepping on them would be very painful. Thankfully, it also meant there were beautiful butterflies flying all around us. We had a blast swimming and riding.I love the serendipitous moments in travel when you do or see things unexpected and that’s definitely what today was for us!
We walked into town for dinner at AMD restaurant. It’s a simple mom and pop place with fantastic food. They had everything from stir-fry to garlic bread to schnitzel. The menu was a little random, but everything was fresh, homemade and delicious!
