Channeling our Inner Rapunzel

We experienced something like this beautiful lantern scene from Tangled in real life! We took a 40 minute drive to the ancient city of Hoi An. In the 16th-18th century it was a port city and a trading hub between China, Japan, France, Netherlands, and of course Vietnam. It has low yellow buildings and it’s famous for its lanterns. First we walked the shopping streets and visited Chinese temples, assembly halls, lovely gardens and the Japanese bridge.

This old town Hoi An is so beautiful and nice to stroll, but it really comes alive at sunset. We bought tickets for a sunset boat ride and lanterns. We were told to make a wish and then float them on the water. The woman who sold us the tickets looked right at Caleb and told him to wish for a girlfriend. 😂 It was such a special experience and all the floating lanterns looked stunning as it was getting dark. It was completely touristy and completely wonderful.

After the boat ride we stopped for a gelato break, then realized we had to try “smoky” ice cream too. It was super funny watching each of us literally blow smoke as we chewed the ice cream balls.

We ended the night in Hoi An at a delicious Greek restaurant called Mix. Annabelle and I loved the tiles, flowers and beautiful decor.
