Peanut Butter & Prison

We walked to Hanoi Cafe this morning and enjoyed French toast, smoothies, avocado toast, and even peanut butter coffee! Hanoi is known for egg coffee, but Dave hasn’t tried that yet. Annabelle and I got chocolate peanut butter banana smoothies which were fantastic. This cafe makes their own bread, cheese, and peanut butter!

Afterwards we walked over to Hoa Lo Prison, called Hanoi Hilton by the Americans during the Vietnam War. It was originally built by the French in 1896 to imprison the Vietnamese. It was dark and very hot. It was difficult to read about the terrible conditions for both Vietnamese men and women, then later the American prisoners of war.

It was hard for the kids to see the violence inflicted and the horrors of war, but good to understand history (both ours and others).
