On the way back from the farm we stopped off at Laos Buffalo Dairy for a tour of the farm.

We had the chance to visit and feed the rabbits, pigs, goats, and buffalo. We also learned how to milk the buffalo, gave them a bath, and brushed them. At the end of the tour we ate buffalo milk ice cream and several different cakes. There was banana cake, ricotta cake and cheesecake all made with buffalo milk. The ice cream flavors were so unique. We tried tamarind, ginger, and lemon grass! Our guide Robert, a veterinarian from Germany, shared about all the ways Laos Buffalo Dairy is the first of its kind and is a part of the local community. They rent out the buffalo from local farmers providing steady income and provide instructional training on how to build pens and care for other animals, including pigs, goats and rabbits.
